Silvio Carta Ph.D. Doctor Europaeus ARB RIBA is an architect and researcher based in London. His main fields of interest are digital design and architectural theory and practice. His studies have focused on the understanding of the contemporary architecture, digital processes, architectural criticism, regeneration and retrofitting, sustainable design, research through making, and the analysis of the design process. He taught at the University of Cagliari (I), University of Rotterdam, and Delft University of Technology, Department of Public Building (NL).
Silvio’s main research interest is in digital design, big data and public space. He is now Head of Design and Director of the Professional Doctorates in Design (DDES) and Fine Arts (DFA) at the University of Hertfordshire (UK). His articles have appeared in A10, Mark, Frame, Bauwelt, Domus et al. Since 2008 he is head of the editorial board of Seoul-based C3 magazine. Silvio edited the monograph Urban Presences, Maurice Nio – Complete Works 2000–2011 (2010), and CEBRA, from Drawing to Building (2012) and is journal editor of AMPS Architecture Media Politics and Society (UCL Press). Silvio curated the international lecture series AUDITORIUM 2015-16 in Leuven, Belgium.
His last book is “Big Data, Code and the Discrete City. Shaping Public Realms” (Routledge 2019).
