There’s a growing divide in investing between the old-school practitioners who manually comb through financial statements, industry reports, and macroeconomic data to identify undervalued assets, and a new generation who trust computers to craft, test, and execute winning strategies.

Antonia Lim, head of quantamental investing at Schroders, aims to deliver the best of both worlds. Quantamental portfolio managers combine quantitative investment techniques with fundamental analysis, leveraging both machine and human insights to make decisions. Lim draws on Schroders’ equity analysts and researchers, along with the experts in the firm’s systematic investments unit, to guide her choices.

“The unusual and lasting blends I have made of quantitative tools with specialist areas such as behavioural finance and macroeconomics have resulted in better meeting investors’ needs,” she says.

Lim is driven by a desire to help her clients build wealth, gain financial security, and safeguard their finances for the future. She unites that deeply human motivation with the rich understanding of computer-powered investing she gained as Barclays’ global head of quantitative research between 2012 and 2019.

Lim is bridging the gap between the past and the future of investing, marrying conventional wisdom with processing power. She is exploring new frontiers for investing in Europe, making her a force for change in the industry.
