Emma is the administrative manager of the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (in Truro, Cornwall, where Smartline is based) with overall responsibility for funding, spend and compliance.

Emma Bland is a founding member of the Centre and provides strategic and administrative leadership.

She plays an integral role in setting the Centre’s long term strategy and has secured over £15 million of research grants in the last decade.

Following degrees in environmental biology and soil conservation, Emma first worked in sustainable development before moving to the higher education sector.

She joined the Medical School in 2004 and over the last 15 years has focused on building cross-sector strategic partnerships, developing health and wellbeing research capacity to address 21st century challenges.

Her recent activities include supporting the Smartline and Inclusivity projects, coordinating initiatives in response to the UK’s Grand Challenge on healthy ageing and helping to build a cross-sector partnership on climate change and health.
